PINELLAS COUNTY
MUSEUM +
PARK

Celebrating history means telling stories that still inspire today. For the 50th anniversary of Pinellas County Heritage Village (a living history museum preserving Florida’s past), BLKDOG led a multi-platform heritage tourism marketing campaign that honored five decades of preservation. The result was a cohesive brand experience that brought Florida’s living history to life, on-site and out in the community.

ABOUT

As Heritage Village approached its 50th year, Pinellas County sought to reinvigorate awareness and engagement across generations. The goal was to create a campaign that celebrated the Village’s legacy, showcased its ongoing relevance, and linked local heritage to the upcoming national America’s 250th commemoration. The initiative needed to blend storytelling, digital engagement, and on-site experiences into one cohesive brand moment.

Pinellas County leadership chose BLKDOG to craft this immersive campaign.

DELIVERABLES
  • Brand Identity
  • Interpretive Signage Design
  • Merchandise & Anniversary Branding
  • Out-Of-Home Ad Design

Through newly-designed interpretive signage and OOH advertising, we invited locals and visitors alike to experience Florida’s living history. This brand unified visuals, messaging, and on-site experiences, extending from print materials to out-of-home ads and merchandise that turned visitors into ambassadors.

Similar to the stories it preserves, Heritage Village’s 50th anniversary campaign was built to last. Our work honored the location’s legacy while creating fresh pathways for discovery, linking Florida’s rich history to America’s 250th and inspiring new generations to explore the past.

The Advisory Council on Historic Preservation notes that travelers who participate in cultural and heritage activities tend to stay longer, spend more, and travel more often.
Out-of-home advertising delivers some of the strongest ad recall versus other channels, which makes it a smart play for community-wide awareness campaigns.
Museum engagement is often measured by “attraction power” and “holding power,” or how many visitors stop and how long they stay. Thoughtful interpretive experiences are designed to raise both.

Why interpretive signage matters

Interpretive signage turns a visit into a story people can follow, not just a place they walk through.

For museums and living history sites, strong interpretive signage design helps visitors understand what they’re seeing, why it matters, and how it connects to the community today. It also supports smoother wayfinding and better visitor flow across a site, especially for first-time guests. Paired with a heritage tourism marketing campaign, on-site interpretation helps make the experience more memorable, shareable, and worth returning for
